ZADAR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Berislav Šipuš, piano
Pavle Dešpalj, conductor
L. Sorkočević, B. Šipuš, J. Brahms
The April 2018 concert of the Zadar Chamber Orchestra will be of a celebratory character. On the occasion of the 60th birthday of the composer Berislav Šipuš, under the direction of its honorary conductor-in-chief and one of the most distinguished Croatian musicians of the older generation, Mo. Pavle Dešpalj, the Orchestra will perform a piece written by the guest of honour, who will appear in the role of pianist. This contemporary composition, which communicates to the audience in an understandable and straightforward manner, simultaneously maintaining the desired concept and message, will be performed with the works of two composers who had composed firmly rooted in the Classicist tradition: Luka Sorkočević, the first Croatian author of symphonies, who lived and worked in the Classicist period, and Johannes Brahms, his 99-year-younger colleague, an innovator whose works are deeply rooted in structures and composing techniques of Classical masters. In the experienced hands of Mo. Pavle Dešpalj, working with the string players that are always pleased to perform with him, this combination of Classicist and contemporary repertoire will appear in its entire splendor.
