SOUND OF ARCHITECTURE / ARCHITECTURE OF SOUND
An exhibition of a project by Roberto Vodanović Čopor
In collaboration with the Fine Arts Gallery of the National Museum Zadar
The project Sound of Architecture / Architecture of Sound by Robert Vodanović Čopor is a product of the author's long-term research into sound, his inclination toward experimentation, and a particular sensitivity through which he registers the audible and potentially audible vibrations of space. By using both standard equipment and extended recording techniques—including contact microphones and the recording of structural vibrations—the sounds of architecture became a specific field of his research. Due to their diversity, varying materials, locations, and other factors, they provided a spectrum of new and intriguing tones and compositions. However, for Čopor, sound is also a medium for contemplating architecture, history, and urban transformation.
With the project Two Palaces – Shift and Noise, he explores the auditory resonance of a contemporary renovated cultural center, where architecture and history meet urban rhythms and the cultural life of the city. Recordings from contact microphones and geophones reveal the invisible vibrations of the space, transforming it into an audible system that simultaneously maintains order and allows for chaos. The architecture, the visitors, the cultural program, and the system of modern apparatuses "quietly" sustaining it all in the background, create a layered, ever-changing auditory situation.
