Opening ceremony
Le Chant du Ménestrel
CROATIAN RADIO-TELEVISION SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Enrico Dindo, cello / conductor
R. Strauss, A. Glazunov, R. Schumann, A. Dvořák
We begin the new concert season in a ceremonious manner, just as an opening ceremony requires. The Croatian National Theatre in Zadar welcome the performance of the Croatian Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra, directed by its present chief conductor, Enrico Dindo. The Italian musician, a former student of Antonio Janigro whose artistry has been described by Mstislav Rostropovich as exceptional and complete, today builds two concurrent careers – one in conducting and the other in cello. During his premiere in Zadar, the audience has the privilege to get to know both of his artistries. As a cellist, he performs three compositions: the early Romanze by Richard Strauss, Minstrel’s Song by Alexander Glazunov, used as the title of this concert, and Rondo by Antonín Dvořák. All that is an introduction to the grandiose final part of the concert, in which Enrico Dindo conducts Robert Schumann’s First Symphony. The rich Romanticist symphony programme brought to Zadar by musicians of the Croatian national television, directed by their chief conductor, with whom they have experienced the pinnacle of their artistic work in the last three years, is an alluring start of the autumnal city cultural scheme, replete with unique musical treats.
