The Four Seasons

ZADAR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Ivan Repušić, conductor
Roman Simović, violin

program: A. Vivaldi, A. Piazzolla

Ever since 2005, when Maestro Ivan Repušić took over the direction of the Zadar Chamber Orchestra, the ensemble has been experiencing its golden years. Today, fast-forward fifteen years, the Zadar Chamber Orchestra is recognized as one of the best ensembles of its kind in the country. With its own concert cycle during the Zadar Concert Season, produced by the Zadar Concert Office, the orchestra remains the musical foundation of the city's cultural life but also stands out on the Croatian music map with such valuable musical achievements as integral performances of Beethoven and Brahms' symphonies with exceptional orchestral musicians and guest soloists. In recent years, the role of the concertmaster has been repeatedly taken over by Roman Simović, a Montenegrin virtuoso with a London address, who already feels like a native of Zadar.

The leitmotif of the first concert of Zadar strings at the Evenings is the four seasons. We will enjoy a twofold experience – first the way the Italian baroque master Antonio Vivaldi imagined the seasons and turned them into music, and then in the interpretation of the Argentinian master Astor Piazzolla in the second part of the concert.

Vivaldi's work has inspired numerous generations of musicians and audiences - the famous movement, Spring, has even been interpreted by the great Johann Sebastian Bach.

Piazzolla himself, in addition to skillfully combining tango, jazz and classical music, was inspired by Vivaldi's work. Namely, in the movements that carry the adjective porteño (in translation – ‘from the port city’, which came to stand for ‘from Buenos Aires’) Piazzolla skillfully introduces quotes from Vivaldi's melodies into the structure of the tango.
